Ross excited by Hibees future

Hibernian manager Jack Ross has signed a two-year contract extension until the summer of 2024 and is excited about what lies ahead at Easter Road.

The Hibees are? in the Scottish Premiership market without Celtic and Rangers and are? to finish in the top six next season.

I believe we have an exciting season ahead of us.

Ross' team finished third in the Scottish top-flight last season with 63 points, their best position since 2004/05, with only Celtic and champions Rangers above them.

The Edinburgh side also reached the semi-finals of the Scottish League Cup and final of the Scottish Cup, where they were beaten by St Johnstone on both occasions.

As a result of their league position last season, Hibs have qualified for the inaugural Europa Conference League and they get their campaign under way at home against Santa Coloma in the second qualifying round on Thursday night.

If they get through that tie they will face Gzira United of Malta or Croatian side Rijeka in the next stage.

Meanwhile, the Edinburgh outfit get their Scottish Premiership season started away to Motherwell on 1st August.

Ross has been with Hibs since 2019, he has previously managed Sunderland, St Mirren and Alloa Athletic in his six years as a first-team boss.

He spoke of his excitement at signing a new contract with the club.

"I'm very happy at Hibernian and I have been well supported by my staff, the players and the board. We had a good season last season and the aim this year is to build on that. We've got a terrific group of players.

"We are looking to bring in one or two to strengthen our group and I believe we have an exciting season ahead of us."
